The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Comes After Poor Feedback

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer direction.

The president expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:

Dear Team—

I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”

With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The trust in this project increases every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of talks, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all eager to persist witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.

David

Experience of the Incoming Head

Brinkman currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every round. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your team can secure victory? The decision is yours."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can anticipate more updates as creation advances.
